I love Friday’s for many reasons – not the least of which is the chance to share a success story with you. Here is a great one on how World Cup Soccer led to a job for my friend Anna. Here’s her story:
“I watched the World Cup with my friend Sabrina. She knew a few professors in the UW’s Political Science department, and they often came and joined us. Through watching and talking about soccer, I befriended them. Later on in the summer, I emailed Matt (one of the profs) to ask about any open teaching assistant positions at the UW. TA positions give students a small stipend, in addition to paying tuition and health insurance. Matt connected me with someone in the Political Science department, and suggested I send my materials to her. I did, and she passed them on to a professor in the Law Societies and Justice department who was looking for a TA. I had my interview today, and he hired me on the spot!”
Awesome job, Anna! Great example of how a sports conversation can lead to big things. I had a chance to interview Guy Fieri from the Food Network this morning and he made the comment, that with so many options in our great country “you can’t tell me you’re not a fan of something.” I agree with Guy. Find an interest, find a passion and be a fan, but more importantly start talking.
I’ll have more from Guy in a later post. If you have a success story – send it in. I’d love to hear from you and I’d love to see you next week at the Talk Sporty to Me and Sassy Fit event. It’s going to be a blast and only $10!
