We love posting success stories on Friday as a way to celebrate accomplishments from the past week.  Today, we’re bringing you a different type of success story in the form of the Virginia Commonwealth.  You might be more familiar with the letters VCU.  The team is in the Final Four after many analysts said they shouldn’t have even been selected to the NCAA tournament.

Just to get into the big bracket, VCU had to win a “play-in” game in the first round.  Conventional thinking tells you, the Rams (VCU’s mascot) shouldn’t have lasted.  Certainly they should have beat a #1 seed like Kansas, but they did.

VCU coach Shaka Smart used the naysayers as motivation in the first couple rounds of the tournament, but he also says the players are just taking advantage of the opportunity.  They’re stepping up to the challenge and proving they belong, at least for this weekend, among the elite teams.

We’ve all been in the position of VCU.  There’s been a time at work, or a challenging situation when the odds don’t seem to be in our favor.  But it’s still an opportunity.  It’s an opportunity to succeed and prove everyone wrong and reach greater success than anyone anticipated.

As you think back on this week, what are some of the opportunities you can take advantage of next week?  How can you strike up a conversation and feel out the situation even more?

Don’t let the opportunities pass you by, that’s how great things happen, just ask the VCU Rams.
