Sports topics provide multiple small talk opportunities at work.  You don’t have to be a huge fan to participate in a sports related conversation.  Simply having a working knowledge of the hot topics works.  Here are the names you should be listening for this week and why they’re important.

Names you need to know:

  • Adam Scott
  • Angel Cabrera
  • Tiger Woods
  • Kobe Bryant
  • Brittney Griner
  • Darrell Revis

Why they’re in the news:

Adam Scott beat Angel Cabrera in a playoff to win The Masters.  Scott is the first Aussie to win the Masters.   It was redemption for Scott who threw away his chance to win the British Open last year.  Tiger Woods finished fourth.  It’s been eight years since he last won the Masters

Kobe Bryant tore his Achilles tendon last week.  The Lakers are on the verge of making the playoffs and they’ll have to win without Bryant who was their leading scorer.  The NBA regular season ends Wednesday and the playoffs begin this weekend.

Brittney Griner is poised to become the #1 overall pick in Monday’s WNBA draft.  She was a two-time national player of the year and averaged nearly 24 points and 4 blocked shots a game for Baylor this season.

New York Jets cornerback Darrell Revis is back in New York this week and will likely participate in the Jets offseason workout program despite the growing chances he’ll be traded.
