Welcome to Christmas week!

For many of us, it means a chance to get away, relax and spend time with family.  I am among the many taking a little time off this week, so I’m switching up the usual Monday post.

This week the focus isn’t on talking with your co-workers and colleagues, but talking to your family and friends.  These conversations are important in maintaining relationships and reconnecting.  Sports conversations can play a role in that and can get the ball rolling, but steer the conversation toward topics that you know will produce meaningful exchanges.  Here are a couple ideas:

  1. Stay away from hot-button sports topics that could lead to fighting or ugly debates.
  2. Pick a success story like Peyton Manning and his record-setting season as a way to see who’s reached personal and professional goals.
  3. Use sports cities to engage in conversations about travel or vacations.

Play the role of journalist during the conversations and get to know the people around you a little better this holiday season.

I’ll be back later in the week but until then – Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
