Hello from Baltimore!  I’m traveling with the Mariners this week and just finished a 3 days in Cleveland before arriving on the East Coast.  Mariners manager Darren Brown said something a couple days ago that I wanted to pass along.  We asked him about young left fielder Michael Saunders and he commented that his confidence was growing and said the more Saunders succeeds the more his confidence will continue to grow.  It’s a very true statement for the rookie.  The same sentiments apply when it comes to Talk Sporty to Me.  Find a few successes, and build on those.  You don’t have to rush to learn everything there is to know about a team or a sport.  Take pleasure in each accomplishment and look for ways to build off those successes.

With that in mind, take a look at these conversation starters for the week.

The Seahawks played in their pre-season opener Saturday against Tennessee.  The Hawks won but more importantly, quarterback Charlie Whitehurst and defensive end Red Bryant stood out for their solid performances.  How do you think the team will match up this week against Green Bay?

The Washington Huskies offense took a hit over the weekend.  Freshman running back Deontae Cooper is out of the year after tearing his ACL.  The Dawgs are still loaded at the position, but Cooper was expected to contribute this season.  How do you think this affects the Dawgs?  What do you think about the team overall this year?

The Washington State Cougars held their first scrimmage over the weekend.  The Cougs defense showed improvement the offense still looked inconsistent.  They’ll need every unit firing on all cylinders when they open the season against Oklahoma State.   Which phase of the game do they need to improve most this season?

Sounders forward Freddy Montero was injured during Saturday’s match against Chivas USA. The Sounders struggled without him.  What happens if he can’t play Thursday in the CONCACAF Group Stage match?  How important has he been to the Sounders this year?

And in case you missed it last week.  The Mariners made a change last week, firing manager Don Wakamatsu and naming Darren Brown interim manager.  Here’s  a little more on that.  What are your first impressions of Brown as a big league manager?
