Sports topics and headlines make great small talk at the office, help you break the ice, lead to better rapport and future conversations.  Here are a few of the hot topics in the sports world this week.  Just read the summary, click on the link for more information and ask the questions provided.

NFL – The NFL preseason games start this week.  There are four weeks of preseason games leading up to the regular season and they’re even more important this year due to the lockout that canceled minicamps and the restrictions on the players in camp this year.  What do you expect to see from your team?  Do you expect any negative affects of the lockout on the field, like players being out of shape or getting injured due to time away from the game?

MLB – Pitching phenom Steven Strasburg made his first rehab start since undergoing Tommy John surgery a year ago.  When he made his debut last season he regularly topped 100 mph.  What do you think will happen to his velocity after the surgery?  What kind of precautions would you take to keep him from getting injured again?

PGA – Tiger Woods returned to golf over the weekend, but he was a nonfactor at the Bridgestone Invitational.  Adam Scott won the tournament with Tiger’s former caddy Steve Williams on the bag.  Afterwards, Williams drew criticism from several golfers who felt he drew too much attention to himself and not Scott’s performance.

What did you think of his comments?  What led to Tiger’s poor finish?

NASCAR – Give Brad Keselowski  bonus points for a gutty performance Sunday at Pocono.  He raced all 500 miles with a broken ankle and won.  He is now in prime position to claim one of the two wild card spots for the Chase for the championship.  Where does his performance among other gutty performances?  Have you ever had to play or compete with a broken bone?
