There are so many great sports topics to talk about this week. Before we get started, a quick reminder that the questions at the end of each topic aren’t trivia questions meant to stump you. Those are the questions you could pose to sports fans to spark conversations. Let them answer the question and fill in all the blanks for you.
College Football – The regular season wrapped up this weekend and Sunday all the bowl match ups were announced. Here’s the complete list, but here are two that most fans will talk about: The Maaco Bowl featuring at Boise State team that at one time was in the running for a big BCS game. This matchup doesn’t reflect the true talent of BSU. The national title game feature unbeaten Oregon and Auburn. What do you think of the matchups? Which ones are you looking forward to watching?
That title game also features two of the top Heisman trophy candidates – Auburn QB Cam Newton and Oregon RB LaMichael James. The Heisman is awarded next week. Who should win?
NFL – What’s happened to Peyton Manning? For years the Colts quarterback has been the best in the league but he doesn’t look anything like the dominating quarterback fans are accustomed to seeing. He’s thrown 11 interceptions in a 3 week span – the first time that’s happened in his career. Have you seen Peyton’s numbers the last few weeks? What’s wrong with Peyton and the Colts?
One more quarterback note – Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre was knocked out of Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. You’ll hear a lot of talk this week regarding his ability to make the 298th consecutive start of his career. What are his chances of playing?
MLB – Derek Jeter (one of our conversation starters last week ) reached an agreement with the Yankees. It’s a reported 3 year 51 million deal with player option for 2014. With Jeter locked up, the Yankees are now focusing on Cliff Lee the biggest free agent pitcher on the market. Lee could make his decision during baseball’s Winter Meetings Dec 6-9. Where should he go? What do you think of the Jeter deal?
Tiger Woods – The former top ranked golfer was poised to win his first tournament in more than a year, but lost to Graeme McDowell in a playoff Sunday. When will Tiger win again? Is he close to completing his comeback?
NBA – There’s trouble in New Orleans and the NBA is looking into buy the Hornets. There’s already speculation and talk they’ll end up in Seattle. NBA fans in Seattle lost their team 2 seasons ago when the owner moved the Sonics to Oklahoma City. Do you want to see a team back in Seattle? How likely is it that Seattle will get another NBA franchise?
