Welcome to a new week and a new batch of conversation starters. Most sports fans in the Northwest will be talking about the Seahawks big win against the Saints.  Football fans everywhere will be talking about the BCS Title game Monday night.  We’ve got you covered on both topics so let’s get talking!

BCS Title Game – Finally it’s here!  We’ve talked about it for more than a month and finally we’ll get to see Oregon and Auburn play for the national title.  Both teams can put up points. Auburn features Heisman winner Cam Newton at quarterback and Oregon features a running back in LaMichael James who rushed for more yards than anyone in the country. Oregon also has a crazy scheme of picture cards to signal in plays. ESPN tried to decipher it here. Who’s going to win?  (After Monday night try the following questions: What did you think of the game? Did it play out the way you expected?)

NFL – So much for the “experts” predictions that the Seahawks couldn’t hold their own against the defending Super Bowl champion Saints. The Hawks looked impressive on their way to a playoff win Saturday.  The Hawks will try to keep things going this week in Chicago.  Seattle beat the Bears earlier this year, 23-20. Do you think they can do it again? What do you think of the Hawks win against New Orleans?

NFL –  The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced 15 finalists for the HOF. Including in the group, Deion Sanders, Jerome Bettis, Marshall Faulk and former Seahawk Cortez Kennedy.   The inductees will be announced the day before the Super Bowl (Feb 5.)  Did you see the list?  Who should make it in?

PGA – The PGA tour season started last week and golfer Camilo Villegas was disqualified from the tournament in Hawaii after marking down the wrong score. Here’s the interesting part of the story – it was a viewer at home that noticed the mistake on the course and tried to alert officials before Villegas turned in his score card.  The viewer didn’t get through in time, Camilo wrote down  the wrong score and was DQ’ed.  It brings up an interested topic – how much does media affect sports?  How will Tiger Woods do this year? He didn’t win a single tournament last year for the first time since 1996.
