Parents dread it, kids squirm at the thought of hearing it.  It’s “the talk.”  You know the one about the birds and bees. The talk you get when you’re an adolescent and going through sex education in health class.

Talking to your kids about sex isn’t easy, but it’s an important conversation and one that gets a little easier to broach thanks to one of the top sports headlines out of BYU.  Brandon Davies, one of their star basketball players was dismissed from the team because he admitted to having sex with his girlfriend, which is a violation of the school’s honor code.  This is a particularly big story in the sports world, because BYU is a favorite in the upcoming NCAA tournament.  The team won’t be the same without Davies in the lineup.

Whether you applaud the school’s decision or disagree with the punishment, you can’t deny this story touches on several issues parents need to address with their children, including: premarital sex, family values and school honor codes.  It’s also an example of how an individual can face consequences that affect an entire team.

If you were looking for ways to broach these subjects, mention the story at the dinner table tonight and see where the conversation takes you.

This is just a small part of how Talk Sporty to Me can improve communication skills and build stronger relationships.  Check out the blog for more tips and consider booking Jen for private event.
